How to budget AI video by accepted shot instead of generated clip

AI video pricing becomes misleading when generated seconds are treated as finished footage. Production cost depends on how many attempts are needed, how much of each clip survives the edit, and whether the plan includes the model and output quality you actually need.

01Define the accepted-shot unit

Start with the finished duration and average shot length. Divide the timeline into shots that must survive review, then estimate attempts per accepted shot. This produces a more useful unit than cost per generated minute because rejected motion, continuity failures, and unusable text remain part of the production bill.

02Keep model access and credits separate

A subscription price does not prove that every model, resolution, duration, or commercial-use option is included. Record the plan fee, included credits, credit cost per generation, overage rules, and expiry separately. Unknown or conflicting values should stay unknown rather than being converted to zero.

03Measure your own acceptance rate
